What We Do
The Shearing analyzes and discusses the culture, conditions, and changes in the political and economic landscape that lead to exploitation and oppression, especially of poor, marginalized, and working people. Our contributors frame, contextualize, and draw connections between these issues.
There’s a joke:
The ‘sharing economy’ should be called the ‘shearing economy’ because people are getting fleeced.
This sentiment can be expanded to critique our culture, economics, and politics generally. Although not strictly controlled by anyone, these aspects of society are designed to exploit and control, albeit in different ways depending on socioeconomic considerations.
